摘要：社会学家已经写了成千上万关于集体行动的文章，而关于人和群体如何分离的研究却少之又少。本文借鉴符号互动主义和过程社会学传统，提出一个初步的理论分析框架，以解释关系解体的复杂和动态的社会过程。这一框架考虑了关系解体的三个方面：关系性、时间性、空间性。虽然行为主体在结束关系时具有能动性，但这一过程会受到他们所处的物理和社会空间以及他们对这些空间的不同进入方式的影响。关系解体的时间性特征包括时长、频率、节奏和同步，这些特征由一系列影响互动形态的事件所塑造。总之，关系解体取决于行为主体、空间位置和互动过程的时空变化。

Sociologists have written thousands of pages on collective action but surprisingly little on how people and groups drift apart. In this article, we draw upon the interactionist and processual sociology traditions to develop a preliminary conceptual framework that explains the complex and dynamic social process of relationship dissolution. Our framework considers three aspects of relationship dissolution: relational, temporal, and spatial. Though actors have agency in ending relationships, this process is influenced by the physical and social spaces in which they are located, as well as their varying access to those spaces. The temporality of relationship dissolution is characterized by duration, frequency, rhythm, and synchronization, which are shaped by a series of events that influence the dynamics of interaction. The dissolution of relationships entails spatial and eventful changes to actors, positions, and interactions.

香港大学法律学院教授、社会学系礼任教授，兼任美国律师基金会客座研究员、纽约大学法学院亚美法研究所客座学者、哈佛法学院法律职业中心客座学者、上海交通大学中国法与社会研究院副院长。研究兴趣包括法社会学、中国法律与社会、刑事司法和人权、法律与全球化以及法社会学理论。刘教授对中国法律改革和法律职业的各个方面进行了广泛的实证研究。此外，还专注于有关法律、职业和社会空间等理论问题的写作。著有四本中英文著作，包括《失落的城邦：当代中国法律职业变迁》、《割据的逻辑：中国法律服务市场的生态分析》、《中国的刑事辩护：律师工作中的政治》、《亚洲法律与社会读本》；在国际知名的法律和社会科学期刊上发表了许多文章，包括Law & Society Review， Law & Social Inquiry， Law & Policy， Asian Journal of Law and Society， Wisconsin Law Review， Fordham Law Review， Yale Journal of International Law， Journal of  Legal Education， Annual Review of Law and Social Science， American Journal of Sociology， Sociological Theory， European Journal of Social Theory， Governance， China Quarterly等。
